    $150-$300 - Incorporating/LLC formation
$150-Skie the limit - Good website

If you buy reseller, it'll probably be harder in some ways, and easier in others. Or, if you host on your computer....harder in some ways and easier in others.

And like they said, make sure you get atleast a C in your writing classes :X

Well. If you are getting a reseller account you just need to get a payment processor, and a website and you are pretty much up. Now if you are talking about whether it's easy to be a good host, that will be a different issue altogether.

Here's proof about starting up a webhosting biz....

If 13 year old kids can do it (and we've had them in this forum) then so can you. Anyone with money can be a webhost.

Ditto to sprintserve - To be a GOOD webhost, that is a completely different story.

Too easy to get into in my opinion, and a lot hearder to maintain a good service than you'd think. It's not easy money by any stretch of the imagination, and will take longer than you expect to turn a decent profit - as well as taking more time than you expect to do a decent job.

I have to echo most opinions here.

If you have money, or at least mommy and daddy does, it's real easy to get into.

It's not so easy to be a good host.

The debate related to being a good host, is the same age old, "Is it okay to be a host 'part-time'?"

If you're in school, don't do it.
If you have another part/full-time job.....don't do it.
If you pride yourself on your social life...don't do it.
If you can't spell.....don't do it.
If you can't read/write....don't do it.
If you break under criticism...don't do it.

As many have already said, being a good host takes a lot of your time. Many of us do it professionally, while others *cough*do not*cough*

Let's face it. Hosting is basically, saving some files to a hard drive. However, when you become a host, you are then allowing other's files to be placed on that hard drive, which you are then responsible for. We are talking about files that run people's businesses, family sites, etc....

Those people come to you, not only because they simply need a place to store their files, but because they have chosen to rely on you, to make those files available whenever they, or a customer of their's need them.

So the short answer is. If you have money....yes it's easy to get into. However, know what you're "getting into."

Can you make a webpage and upload it? Then you can claim to be a web host.
You'll get fewer complaints from over performing than from over promising.

    lol well not technically.

Our clients can make a webpage and upload it. They are not webhosts.

    Webhosting Easy?

Unfortuantley we all seem to suffering from the difficulty in defining a 'webhost'

Ready access to canned hosting packages has made it easy for just about anyone to hang up a shingle and call themselves a webhost (or a web developer for that matter).

Unfortunately, people typically underestimate the business side of running a hosting business and make basic decisions based simple dollars and sense without factoring in soft costs (i.e., time, effort..and *gasp* client satisfaction/needs).

Success as a webhost will be driven by a basic ability to correctly identify client needs, differentiate yourself from the sea of commodity providers, live up to or exceed your client's expectations, and do all this while maintaining profitability.

It's easy to find a way to serve up websites...being successful will depend more on how you approach hosting, which is based on your particular skills, dedication, and client needs.
