    Config dedicated server

Hi, recently rented a dedicated server.
    Which has quite good specs.

Set everything up (not sure if correct) but my website runs slow and after clicking through a few pages the website crashes.
And then takes a while to load back up.

I had this website on a very low cost shared hosting and it runs better, than on my new dedicated server.

Could anyone have a look and fix and config my server.

Also would be great to connect and have someone I could contact/hire in the future if I need help.

    Thank you for your time.
    Chris

A dedicated server does not automatically make your website fast. It needs to be configured and optimized first. Perhaps consider a managed server so your provider handles server administration and optimization.

There is more to it. If your shared hosting server has faster CPU and storage, the website will still have faster page load times on shared hosting vs. a dedicated server with poor hardware.

A dedicated server alone does not increase performance. Correct configuration is important and also, using tools such as Lightspeed web server, Cache server installation, and server optimization are effective in the speed of hosted websites. It is better to contact your provider for configuration and management.

I understand that having a server correctly configured is everything.
My $2.99 hosting runs my site better than my unmanaged dedicated server.

    CPU: Intel Xeon D-1540 - 2 GHz - 8 cores
    Memory: 64 GB - DDR4
Storage: 2x 240 GB (SSD SATA)

Unfortunately because I can not afford to get a managed server, I have had to get a unmanaged dedicated server.
As my ram goes up to 90% on my shared hosting when peak users are active.

As I'm running a non profit community site, I'm volunteering my time and personal money.
And with the licences of software it can be quite expensive just for a unmanaged dedicated server.
So I have to resort to a unmanaged server as I use to much resources for any shared hosting.

As a part time web developer, I thought it would be a quite a simple process of installing a cpanel
(had to use webuzo because threre is no cpanel solo account for dedicated servers)
and then installing the apps/software needed, reading install guides and would be good to go.

Which is not the case as my site takes longer to load and after a few pages clicked I get 40 secs page loads.
I find installing and tweak settings very detailed, confusing and time consuming as a beginner.
Yesterday I spent all day reading and had to reinstall my server 3 times due to things going wrong and webuzo software problems and lack of support from webuzo support.
I mentioned the problem about the long load times and crashes and if they could go over the config and each time they said everything its fine.
And because I have run the web site for 3 months on $2.99 low cost hosting and used the site everyday I know the problems and notice the difference.

So far I have webuzo and all the apps needed to run my site installed and my site is live and working.
I just need everything configured and maybe other software to improve things.
Currently using AlmaLinux 9, Webuzo, Apache 2.4, Php8.2, Mariadb10.6, phpmyadmin.

Hoping I can find someone to hire who is willing to help me set up and config the server for me.
If anyone knows and can recommend someone please do I would be extremely grateful.

    Thank you

That hardware is ancient - museum quality. No amount of optimization will give you good results. In general, any shared hosting, even the dollar ones, should be faster than that. I am told people usually use these for purposes like VPN.

Perhaps consider getting shared hosting with more resources. Yes, your cost will increase compared to the shared hosting you have now, but it will not be as much as you are paying for the dedicated server and Webuzo license.

Quite a few providers offer shared hosting with more resources. Some of them have enough resources to be faster than mid level recent generation dedicated servers.

A dedicated server has a lot more to configure. Installing a control panel is probably just 1% of the total configuration. For a first-timer, I still advise against going with the server despite your cost concerns.

Wow really oh no, on oneprovider the CPU benchmark was really high compared to the other servers.
Also it said its a super server.
I feel very stupid now I spent 3 day's trying to config this server.

Is getting a VPS a better option?
The thing about shared hosting a lot of places say unlimited everything but then you get the fair usage policy.

Perhaps a managed VPS. Resources on a VPS are also shared. Both have terrible providers and good providers. And at the same price point, shared hosting is faster than VPS.

Decent providers usually publish detailed resource limits on their websites. Whether it's VPS or shared, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Avoid these types of providers.

    Hi,

You need to optimize and secure your dedicated server.

Another solution is to hire a managed VPS with a better CPU (AMD Ryzen 7900, 9950X or 9900X) and DDR5 RAM.

For starters you could try ApacheBuddy and MySQLTunner.

    Any problems just ask.

    Hi,

Choose MPM Event, PHP-FPM "Static" (is the best choice)
