Is Rackspace still a good option?
Hi Guys,
I'm just trying to get an idea on service quality and customer service quality of Rackspace at the current moment in 2024-2025
Specifically in terms of cost as well for Virtual Dedicated Servers. If they are still good option or better providers are there?
Anyone still using them or have any recent experience with them, please share!!
Thanks!

Would be nice to execute a cost comparison using following points.
CPU cores (physical)
Internal Memory
+
Uptime Guarantee and SLA
Focusing the configuration would be nice rather than focusing on the brand.

Plan is to setup two servers under a load balancer for high availability and the team recommended virtual server will be a better option so can you guide if that will be a good move?
And again, is rackspace still good option or there are others in the market with better pricing, service etc

What level of budget restrictions are you up against? Are you looking for a managed or unmanaged solution?

That's really a great question and I hope someone here can answer it. So far all the replies seem to be from people.talking about speeds and feeds which was never the selling point of rackspace. I feel like all the replies so far are from people hoping you'll buy something from them instead.
I don't hear much about rackspace these days. But I have to imagine the managed services market is still huge. It used to be the biggest segment of the hosting industry by far, before cloud became so large.

There have only been three replies including yours. Since Rackspace only advertises managed bare metal, colocation and cloud solutions, asking if the OP is looking for managed or unmanaged if completely reasonable since they never mentioned that. I've never used Rackspace, but they certainly have an enviable track record of excellence in this industry.

I agree, is OP looking for managed, or unmanaged servers? It's also different in terms of pricing and manageability.

Agreed - it's going to depend on your specific requirements. Rackspace is a great provider but they are never going to be the most cost effective if all you're looking for is an unmanaged server with 3 x 9's for availability. However, if you are looking for a fully managed solution or something more complex, the cost may be worth it.

Read all the fine print before signing any SLA. This will help in cutting down any confusion or overages that was not previously discussed. Also as a good measure you may want your in house attorney if available to look over the contract.

We are actually looking for a managed solution so we don't have to worry about licenses like SQL Server etc.

Always look thoroughly through their contract/SLA to see what they can or can not do. You may also want to contact their sales rep if you any questions or concerns.
