Tired of gmail, what to use?

Looking at fastmail but i wonder if i should just use the email my webhost provides for my domains. Not sure how secure that is. My domains are just a hobby and used to learn.

    It's just personal email.

If it is just you, i.e. - one inbox for as many e-mail addresses as you want, I would recommend Zoho Mail for $1/month/inbox. My experience is that the majority of (especially smaller) webhosts do not monitor the Reputation (spam) of their mail servers, which means incoming and outgoing mail can both get bounced from time to time.

For personal email webhost mail can be fine. There are 3rd party SPAM filter options you can utilize. Security mostly comes down to your devices, updates, and if you are using SSL connections. But the quality of the webhost email can vary depending on the interface and control panel.

For simplicity and reliability, Outlook or Yahoo Mail could work.
For better security, features, and peace of mind, Fastmail is definitely worth considering.

I'm trying to move away from google but it is all over the place and not a easy task. I think all the free e-mail services scan your emails.

I definitely want better features, security, and peace of mind after all my bank info is tied to my e-mail. Gmail does do a good job with spam.

If security is your concern, then get away from free service.

I will give fastmail a try.

I have used mail.com in the past. They are very secure and fast. However, they do display too may ads in my opinion. I do like them though. I moved away from them when our company started using Google Workspace.

You have tons of their SASS services which you can use along with your email.
I personally use their password manager, mail, storage and zoho docs.

Do you want to use your own domain in your email address? I've used MXRoute for a few years now for that. If you just want a free email address you can use Tuta or Proton Mail. I use both Tuta and Proton for websites/services where I don't necessarily want my real name/domain name to be known.

I've been using my domain's email server for ages. In fact I've been cleaning the thing up and nuke a lot of address I set up over the years, like for coupons, train magazine subs, even one I used that collected "reported posts" when I was a Mod on WHT.

I switched from Google Workspace to FastMail because it is much cheaper and easier to use.

In my experience, Zoho is similar to Google Workspace, but it has too many settings and options scattered throughout, making it a nightmare to navigate.

While Proton Pass is good, I found that ProtonMail is more challenging to use and set up for work compared to FastMail.

    Therefore, I prefer FastMail.

Shortwave looks to be a service that manages email accounts from other providers, not an email service itself i.e FastMail, Zoho, Google, Microsoft 365!?
