The planning committee of Hertsmere Borough Council has given the green light to DC01UK’s proposal for the construction of what will become Europe’s largest cloud and AI data center. The approval, which comes shortly after the UK government’s release of its AI Opportunities Action Plan, signals a significant step forward in the nation’s commitment to becoming a global leader in digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

DC01UK’s facility is set to redefine the data center landscape with its unprecedented scale and cuttin-edge capabilities. Once completed, the facility will span up to two million square feet, making it the largest of its kind in Europe. Strategically located near the Elstree (Letchmore Heath) substation, the data center benefits from a robust 400MVA power reserve provided by the National Grid, as well as national and international fiber optic links. This prime positioning enables it to address the current cloud storage shortages while anticipating the exponential growth in demand driven by AI advancements.
