I'm confused between Shared,Reseller and VPS hosting for Wordpress blog?

Currently I'm using Reseller hosting for my wordpress blogs. The uptime is excellent but i keep on getting warnings from my host regarding high CPU usage.I'm confused between shared reseller and VPS hosting. Will i be able to manage a VPS.I don't have any expertise related to server.I'm just considering it because hostgator VPS plan($19.95) is cheaper than Reseller plan ($ 24.95).
I'm interested in shared hosting but i don't know whether it will be able to handle 10 or more wordpress blogs on shared one.

Please suggest me one which can easily handle lot of wordpress blogs.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Maybe try another host first? People like hostgator oversell their servers, so the slight moment you go over a set CPU usage they will suspend your account. Try researching around WHT for another host. If they are indeed using a lot of CPU/RAM then you will need to look into a VPS. As well as the $19.95, you'll also need a control panel license, a management package if you don't know what you are doing, and the $19.95 probably won't be very powerful.

How busy are your blogs? It may be that you require a VPS with something like 1GB ram. By the time you add these costs up it'll soon jump up!

An unmanaged dedicated server and an unmanaged VPS would both require some knowledge of running a server. If you don't know how to run a server, you should stick with shared hosting or reseller hosting.

a VPS is a virtual server. Normally it is an upgrade from shared/reseller, but this depends on the VPS package. Not all VPS plans are equal, it depends on the hardware you're placed on, the resources you get etc...If you're new to VPS a managed VPS is recommended, mainly because managing a VPS is quite a bit different than reseller/shared hosting, you have to secure it, monitor it, install software on it etc...

If you're getting CPU usage warnings on a reseller, going to shared hosting won't make much of a difference (especially if it's with the same company).

Managed VPS hosting is your best choice, but it's a high cost.

Before spending more money on more advance plan, have your sites been optimized? Are they using plugins? Some plugins are known to be using high CPU. If this is the case, give WP Super Cache a try.

As far as I know, they're not quite that strict (and many aren't, that's the very idea of shared hosting, instant, short access to the computing power of a server). The one policy that is strict at HG, as far as I know, would be the number of processes used, which last I looked was limited at 25. That would mean that up to 25 visitors can all request pages at virtually the same moment in time.

At the end of the day, we're talking about ~$7 shared hosting. That is a much fairer gauge of what you're going to get. A non overselling host still can't give more than $7 can buy.

I'm interested in shared hosting but i don't know whether it will be able to handle 10 or more wordpress blogs on shared one.
I believe the typical answer to that would be a question. How long is a piece of string? 1 busy blog may be too much for a shared hosting account. It could be too much even for a dedicated server.

So, how popular do you expect these blogs to be? What amount of traffic will they attract?

My main blog currently gets daily 2500 visitors and around 6000 pageviews. Is media temple grid server good for me.It is priced at $20/month. And what about 1&1 business plan. They say its good for small to medium business sites. It is priced at $10/month with first 6 months free.
    Any advice.

Don't go with 1&1. Their support isn't the best, and their servers are choppy and slow. Also, you're going to wind up hating it and not being able to cancel your contract.

    Greetings,
There are several cacheing plugins for WordPress that may dramatically reduce the CPU Load that WordPress can use, especially on a Shared Hosting Site.

    Hello,
Have you looked into a host that provides LiteSpeed, this can help with the CPU Use. The other option is a managed VPS. The downside however is cost. May I ask how much disk space and bandwidth you are using?

Depending on the company you may also have issues with the shared reseller if you're using a lot of CPU resources.

How busy are the sites? (I'm guessing they are fairly busy if you're getting warning emails).

I would suggest looking into a VPS because you generally know your limits and you may be able to have the company help you migrate your existing content over.
